Speaking before Duterte supporters in The Hague, Netherlands, Vice President Sara Duterte falsely claimed that the International Criminal Court has no other case except for that of her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte.
Flagged content: The vice president made the statement during the “Free Duterte Now” rally, where she spoke to supporters gathered outside the ICC detention center on July 29.
- During her speech, Sara also labeled the court a “puppet” of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and former senator Antonio Trillanes IV, falsely alleging that this was why the court was handling only her father’s case.
Our debunk: Public records show that the court has been handling numerous cases.
- There were six other detainees in ICC custody aside from Rodrigo Duterte, Mahamat Said Abdelkani, Alfred Yekatom and Patrice-Edouard Ngaïssona of the Central African Republic, Al Hassan of Mali, Abd-Al-Rahman of Sudan, and El Hishri of Libya.
- Aside from those in ICC custody, there are outstanding warrants for suspects who are considered fugitives and are at large.
Rewind: Rodrigo Duterte’s trial is scheduled on Nov. 30 after the Pre-trial Chamber I unanimously confirmed all the charges against him on April 23.
