CLAIM: Sen. Kiko Pangilinan has been ousted from the Senate.
RATING: FALSE
A YouTube video uploaded by the channel “Boss Balita TV” falsely claimed that Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan had been ousted from the Senate.
Flagged content: The Nov. 21 video falsely claimed that Pangilinan was unseated after he was supposedly criticized by Sen. Raffy Tulfo in a hearing.
- The caption reads, “TULFO BINIRA SI KIKO! GRABE RAFFY TULFO! PINABABA NASA PWESTO! SINIBAK SA PWESTO! KAKAPASOK LANG! (sic).” (Tulfo slammed Kiko! Raffy Tulfo was intense! Removed from the position! Fired from the post! Just recently appointed!)
- The narrator falsely claimed that Tulfo used profane language after Pangilinan supposedly defended corruption within the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).
Our debunk: No statements or documents from the Senate confirm Pangilinan’s removal from public office.
- As of the time of writing, Pangilinan is still a member of the Senate.
- On Dec. 15, Pangilinan was seen present at the 34th Senate Session.
- On Dec. 16, Pangilinan expressed sentiments about Sen. Panfilo Lacson’s statement regarding alleged errors in the proposed 2026 budget of DPWH.
- Members of both chambers of Congress can only be expelled “with the concurrence of two-thirds of all its Members” according to Article VI, Section 16 of the 1987 Constitution.
Rewind: On Nov. 20, Tulfo questioned NIA officials about problems in the Bulo Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (Bulo SRIS) in Bulacan. During the plenary deliberations, Pangilinan sponsored the NIA budget while Tulfo interpolated.
