FACT-CHECK: Multiple Facebook ads falsely link Robredo to bogus investment scheme

CLAIM: Naga city mayor Leni Robredo is promoting an investment scheme that offers ₱940,000 in profits every month.

A Facebook ad falsely claimed that Naga city mayor Leni Robredo was promoting an investment opportunity that guarantees a monthly passive income of  ₱940,000.

Flagged content: The advertisement was paid for by Facebook account “Crypto Nexus.”

  • The post was captioned, “More and more people are exploring new digital opportunities and choosing modern online tools as an alternative to traditional ways of working. Take a look at this platform – you might discover something completely new for yourself.”
  • The link to a membership sign-up leads to a fake ABS-CBN website. 

Our debunk: Robredo is not behind an AI-based cryptocurrency investment that ensures a ₱940,000 payout a month. 

  • There are no such posts or videos from Robredo’s Facebook or Instagram accounts regarding such an investment program. 
  • The cryptocurrency platform mentioned in the article “EquiLoomPro” is not registered on the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) website.
  • ABS-CBN previously flagged imposter websites and debunked false reports on supposed investment schemes on its official website.

Why we fact-checked this: As of writing, the post has drawn 1,300 likes, 54 comments, and 30 shares.

  • This is similar to a previously fact-checked claim by PressOne.PH about a deepfaked ABS-CBN News Patrol video promoting scams.
