CLAIM: Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito took over the chairmanship of the Senate Blue Ribbon committee on Nov. 25.
RATING: FALSE
A Facebook page posted a fraudulent news article claiming that Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito took over the chairmanship of the Senate Blue Ribbon committee from Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson on Nov. 25.
Flagged content: The Facebook page “The Secrets of Showbiz” posted a fake news card showing images of Senators Lacson, Sotto, Dela Rosa, Marcos, Go, Zubiri, and Ejercito.
- The caption read: “Kakapasok Lang! Senador Lacren ‘Tinusta’ ni General Turoso sa Harap ng Kamera, Nagulantang ang Buong Hearing – Sen. Jvris, Biglaang Pinalitan sa Komite B.R. at Si Zubero, Sinagasang ang mga Paborito ni Bato at Imee Go, Pero Sino ang Naghatid ng Huling Paghampas? (sic)” (“Just In! Senator Lacren ‘Taunted’ by General Turoso in Front of the Camera, Shocking the Entire Hearing – Sen. Jvris, Suddenly Replaced in the B.R. Committee and Zubero, Ransacked Bato and Imee Go’s Favorites, But Who Delivered the Final Blow?”).
- The graphic included superimposed text that said: “SOTTO BUMALEKTAD?”, “BINARA SI LACSON? SEN JV NAG-TAKE OVER SA B.R.? (sic)” (“SOTTO WITHDREW?”, “LACSON WAS MOCKED? SEN JV TOOK OVER B.R.?”)
Our debunk: Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson remains the chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon committee, which investigates anomalies in the government.
- On Oct. 5, Lacson said in a DZBB radio interview that majority of committee members were dissatisfied with his leadership amid the flood control probe.
- On Oct. 7, Lacson sent a resignation letter to Sotto.
- Sotto named five potential candidates, who are also committee members, to take over the chairmanship: Ejercito, Sen. Raffy Tulfo, Sen. Pia Cayetano, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, and Sen. Risa Hontiveros.
- On Oct. 8, Vice Chairman Erwin Tulfo assumed the position of acting Blue Ribbon chairman as Lacson vacated the position.
- During the Senate Plenary session on Nov. 11, Lacson was reelected to his position as chairman without objections.
