CLAIM: Kitty Duterte said Sara Duterte was hospitalized and is in critical condition.
RATING: FALSE
A Facebook page falsely claimed that Kitty Duterte had released a statement that Vice President Sara Duterte was in critical condition in a hospital.
The post also attached a link redirecting to a fake article containing more details about the false claim.
The article alleged that close sources had revealed how former president Rodrigo Duterte remained in constant contact with Kitty due to his anxiety about Vice President Sara’s medical condition.
It also had a made-up quote from the former president, “I just want to know she’s okay.”
It was also falsely stated in the article that two hashtags trended across Facebook: #GetWellSoonSara and #PrayersForSara, and that several public figures had sent their best wishes.
However, PressOnePH only found three unrelated posts under #GetWellSoonSara and the most recent post under #PrayersForSara was in 2023.
There is also no evidence showing that former president Duterte and other public figures had released a statement about the vice president’s hospital confinement.
The Facebook post featured an edited photo of Kitty crying and a woman in a hospital bed, supposedly depicting the vice president.
However, Kitty’s photo was originally taken during her speech at the PDP Laban campaign rally, and the woman in the hospital bed is a different person, as seen in a 2022 GMA Public Affairs Instagram content. Alessandra Reodique
