The photo of an unidentified sculptor posing beside a wooden bust of former president Rodrigo Duterte that has become viral was likely generated by artificial intelligence.
On March 3, Facebook page “Davaoeños Duterte Defender” posted the image with the caption: “Obrang Pinoy! 🇵🇭 Galing naman!”
(“A Filipino masterpiece! Impressive!)
Analysis from sightengine, an online AI image detection software, determined the photo as “likely AI-generated” with a 99% confidence rating.
Similarly, a reverse Google image search on the photo did not yield conclusive results of its possible origin, hinting the strong possibility of the image being created using AI.
The bottom left corner of the photo also bore the logo of another Facebook page known for creating political content with the aid of AI where it originally appeared on March 1.
As of writing, the photo has gathered a cumulative 102,000 reactions, 6,300 comments, and 5,650 shares. Hurt Allauigan
