FACT-CHECK: No ‘order’ from VP Duterte to give Filipinos income from taxes

CLAIM: Vice President Sara Duterte enacted a law to give Filipinos income from taxes.

RATING: FALSE

A malicious post has surfaced on Facebook claiming that Vice President Sara Duterte had enacted a law that would give Filipinos “compensation from the government.”

The “Element Fusion” post bore a thumbnail that encourages unsuspecting users to click according to their age brackets.

This would lead them to a website that impersonates Inquirer.net with a story titled: “By the order of Sara Duterte, Philippine residents will start receiving income from taxes.”

The article goes on to solicit the reader to invest in a questionable cryptocurrency platform to earn the “benefits.”

However, the Constitution does not vest the vice president the power to sign, approve, and enact laws.

No laws exist in the country that enable Filipino citizens to claim any kind of monetary compensation based on age alone.

A similar claim was fact-checked by PressOne.PH in January.

As of writing, the phishing article has garnered 9,600 likes, 2,000 comments, and 457 shares on Facebook.
