CLAIM: Duterte named US International Anti-corruption Awardee.
RATING: FALSE
Facebook fan pages of former president Rodrigo Duterte shared false claims that he had received the US International Anti-corruption Award.
One of the FB pages, named “Duterte Fans Club,” said in its caption: “Good job PRRD. This was during his term,” along with an image bearing presumably the watermark of Cebu Daily News.
Upon close inspection, however, under the CDN logo is the word “satirical.”
Satirical news page “Cebu Dairy News” posted on Oct. 21, 2021 the image that bore a close resemblance to the CDN template.
The award was given to Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto on Feb. 24, 2021. In a press release, the US Department of State said “it recognizes [his] commitment to transparency initiatives.”
No other Filipino politician has received the award since its inception in 2021.
The parody page was inaccessible as of writing.
On its website bio, Cebu Dairy News describes itself as a “parody” of news platform CDN Digital based in Cebu City. Hurt Allauigan
