FACT-CHECK: Pastor Apollo Quiboloy did not surrender to Davao City police official

CLAIM: Pastor Apollo Quiboloy surrendered to Davao Region police chief Nicolas Torre III.

RATING: FALSE

A TikTok video erroneously claimed that the self-proclaimed “Appointed Son of God,” Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, had surrendered to Davao Region police chief Nicolas Torre III.

In the video posted Sept. 1, Quiboloy could be seen standing between Torre and an unidentified Philippine National Police official.

Upon closer examination, the video could be seen with a “runway” watermark on its lower right corner, indicating it was AI-generated.

Signs of AI generation could also be seen, including awkward smiles and an unusually long handshake between Torre and the other PNP general.

The user @ryanestobo had previous posts bearing the similar watermark from Runway AI.

Analysis from AI-detection software Sensity flagged the content for being “suspicious” after detecting signs of manipulation.

Quiboloy “peacefully surrendered” to military intelligence officers, not to Torre, on Sept. 8, ending a police manhunt.

Torre said “he was only informed by [the] secretary (Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos) that Quiboloy has surrendered.” Hurt Allauigan
