FACT-CHECK: Sara Duterte did not publicly announce plans to attend the Taylor Swift concert in Germany

CLAIM: Vice President Sara Duterte announced in a speech that she will watch the Taylor Swift concert in Germany

RATING: FALSE

An AI-generated video of Vice President Sara Duterte has been circulating on Facebook, where she was supposedly detailing her plans to attend a Taylor Swift concert in Munich, Germany.

In the AI-generated clip, Duterte appears to publicly announce: “Bibili ako ng ticket.

This manipulated video used an AI-generated recording of Duterte to sync with the edited Facebook livestream of her speech at the Go Negosyo “Youthpreneur” (Mentoring the Future Entrepreneurs) event on April 8 this year.

Duterte did not release any statement confirming her plans to attend the pop icon’s concert.

Days prior to the uploading of the AI-generated video, speculations on the whereabouts of Duterte during the onslaught of Typhoon “Carina” arose, with critics pointing out that the vice president’s trip abroad coincided with Swift’s concert date.

The Office of the Vice President did say in a statement that the vice president was “on a personal family trip with her family overseas.”

The AI-generated video has been played over 2,500 times. Zarena Hermogeno
