FACT-CHECK: Marcos did not bark orders to American officials

CLAIM: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. gave instructions to American officials ‘like a boss’

TikTok user “muskcullin” falsely claimed that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. gave directives to American officials in a Malacañang meeting on July 30, 2024.

The American officials in the video were US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III, who paid a courtesy call on Marcos Jr in Malacañang.

During the meeting, the three officials discussed the relationship between the United States and the Philippines and how to further strengthen the US-Philippine alliance. 

Blinken and Austin also reassured Marcos Jr. of the US commitment to helping protect Philippine sovereignty.

As of writing, the TikTok video has accumulated 23,100 views, 2,843 reactions, 795 comments, and 87 shares. Leigh San Diego
