FACT-CHECK: Fake video falsely claims Taylor Swift skipped PH out of dislike for Duterte supporters

CLAIM: Taylor Swift excluded the Philippines from her tour schedule to stay away from Duterte supporters.

RATING: FALSE

A fake, AI-generated video of Taylor Swift supposedly refusing to hold a concert in the Philippines because of her dislike for “Diehard Duterte Supporters” spread on TikTok on July 31.

The TikTok page “Principles Of Life” posted the manipulated video and drew thousands of views and reactions on the platform. An image of Vice President Sara Duterte was superimposed on it.

The original video was from Swift’s guest appearance on the American talk show “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” which was uploaded to YouTube on Nov. 14, 2021.

Swift was on the show to promote her album “Red (Taylor’s Version).”

Nowhere in the 14-minute interview did the pop star mention the Eras tour, nor did she comment on “Diehard Duterte Supporters.”

The Eras Tour was officially announced on Good Morning America (GMA) and on her Instagram post on Nov. 1, 2022.

Announcements for the tour’s Asian dates were released on June 21, 2023, and only for Singapore and Japan.

There were no stated reasons for the Philippines’s exclusion from the pop star’s Asian tour.

The video has so far drawn more than 800 likes and more than 200 comments. Sofia Abarquez
