FACT-CHECK: Posts reuse 2022 photo of Davao City’s typhoon relief drive

CLAIM: Photo shows Davao City’s assistance to victims of typhoon-induced floods.

Various social media posts reused an old photo from the Davao City website to falsely show that the city government had immediately mobilized trucks of relief goods to help victims of Typhoon “Carina”-induced monsoon rains in Luzon. 

The image used was that of the city’s relief drive for Typhoon “Paeng” victims in Cotabato City and Maguindanao on Nov. 4, 2022. The city government had deployed 16 trucks carrying 8,000 boxes of goods, medicines, sleeping kits, and hygiene kits. 

As of this writing, one of the accounts that reused the old photo, For the Motherland – Sass Rogando Sasot, has drawn 18,500 reactions and 7,500 shares.

A tweet by The Manila Times columnist Malou Tiquia, who has 56,100 followers in X,, has reached 48,000 views, 522 likes, and 115 reposts. 

As of posting time, the City Government of Davao has yet to announce a relief drive for Typhoon “Carina” victims. Raniel Paquingan
