FACT-CHECK: Gadon falsely claims former ABS-CBN reporter was appointed by the Supreme Court as public information officer

Disbarred lawyer Larry Gadon made the false claim that the public information officer of the Supreme Court is a former ABS-CBN reporter.

CLAIM: A former ABS-CBN reporter was named public information officer of the Supreme Court.
RATING: FALSE

Disbarred lawyer Larry Gadon made the false claim that the public information officer of the Supreme Court is a former ABS-CBN reporter.

Gadon made the false claim in a post on his Facebook page after the Supreme Court found him guilty of gross misconduct for committing perjury and making accusations based on hearsay in the impeachment case of former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.

He also claimed without evidence that the high court’s decision was “suspicious” after he publicly criticized ABS-CBN.

He said:

The Public Information Officer of the SC now is a former ABS-CBN reporter

Michael Jobert Navallo, a lawyer and former reporter of ABS-CBN, was appointed chief communications officer of the Supreme Court, not as public information officer.

The court announced his appointment on April 16, 2024.

He will assume the post on Aug. 1.

As of June 3, 2024, the head of the high court’s Public Information Office is lawyer Camille Sue Mae. L. Ting, who is also the official spokesperson of the court.
