A website falsely claims Pope Francis and former US President Bill Clinton called for the urgent depopulation of the world to avert the climate crisis.
CLAIM: Bill Clinton and Pope Francis urged world leaders to pursue human depopulation as a strategy for saving the planet from so-called “global boiling.”
RATING: FALSE
A website made the false claim that former US president Bill Clinton and Pope Francis “have joined forces to urge world leaders to pursue human depopulation as a strategy for saving the planet from so-called “global boiling.”
The website, “The People’s Voice,” falsely claimed that Clinton and the pope said that it was the “moral duty” of all governments worldwide to ramp up efforts in fighting the “climate change catastrophe”.
The pontiff hosted the former president and his delegation, which included several prominent Americans, including Alex Soros of the Open Society Foundations, in a private audience at the Casa Santa Marta papal residence in July.
However, no joint statement was issued.
The pope also spoke virtually at the Clinton Global Initiative held last Sept. 18 but he and Clinton did not call for the urgent depopulation of the world as claimed by the website.
The pope’s full address at the event can be read here.
All the pope’s statements are always posted in the Holy See’s official website.
