FACT-CHECK: Jessica Soho did not join a pro-Duterte rally

CLAIM: Veteran journalist Jessica Soho joined a pro-Duterte rally at Camp Aguinaldo.

RATING: FALSE

Several pro-Duterte Facebook and X users falsely claimed that veteran journalist Jessica Soho went to Camp Aguinaldo to participate in a pro-Duterte rally on Sept. 21.

Flagged Content: Pro-Duterte Facebook and X users have been posting photos of Soho in front of Camp Aguinaldo.

  • Users claimed in their captions that unlike other public figures, Soho joined a pro-Duterte rally to show her support in calling out corruption in the current administration.

Our Debunk: Soho not only went to Camp Aguinaldo during the “Trillion Peso March” rally.

Rewind: In his July 28 SONA, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ordered a probe into alleged corruption in the flood control project, which faced scrutiny after a series of storms.

  • On Aug. 11, Marcos Jr. named the 15 contractors that cornered the majority of the country’s flood-control projects.
  • On Aug. 19, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee began its probe into anomalies in flood-control projects.
  • Soho has used her program to report on the alleged irregularities.
  • Soho’s special report on this issue first aired on Aug. 24.
  • As of writing, Soho’s reporting on this scandal has expanded into a five-part series.

Why we’re fact-checking this: False context surrounding Soho’s photos has continued to circulate on pro-Duterte Facebook and X accounts.

  • As of writing, one of the accounts that posted the photo has amassed 48,836 reactions, 3,000 shares and 2,100 comments on Facebook.
  • Meanwhile, the post of one of the X accounts that shared the photos has reached 33,700 views.

Spot the fake: If a post featuring a public figure seems questionable, check their official social media pages to confirm the details.  Leigh San Diego
