FACT-CHECK: Marcos claims downtrend in inflation

Claim: Inflation has slowed down, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said during his fourth State of the Nation Address.

Rating: MORE CONTEXT NEEDED

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said overall inflation had declined, as he delivered his fourth State of the Nation Address at the Batasang Pambansa on July 28.

Context: Inflation, the rate of change in the prices of consumer goods and services, actually inched up to 1.4% in June 2025 from 1.3% in May 2025.

Rewind: Reckoned on an annual basis, however, Marcos’s claim was correct. In July 2024, the overall inflation stood at 4.4%, with average inflation reaching 3.2% that year.

Why we’re fact-checking this: The president made his claim during his fourth State of the Nation Address, a crucial venue where the public is informed of the economic, political, and social progress of the country. Angeline Domingo
