FACT-CHECK: Hontiveros and Pimentel did not get floral tributes after opposing motion to dismiss impeachment

CLAIM: Sen. Risa Hontiveros and Sen. Koko Pimentel got floral tributes after opposing Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa’s motion to dismiss the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.

A video of senators. Risa Hontiveros and Koko Pimentel has circulated on Facebook, with the social media user falsely claiming that the opposition lawmakers received  floral tributes after opposing Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa’s motion to dismiss Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment case.

Netizens reacted and asserted, “The greatest duo on the Senate floor.”

PressOne.PH found that the Facebook page  “Juan Luna Blog” posted the edited video, falsely claiming that floral tributes were given to both senators. It bore the caption, “Right is might.”

An AI detection website used by PressOne.PH, Deepware, flagged the video as suspicious AI-generated content, with the algorithm registering a suspicion level of 54%. 

The Seferbekov algorithm, by Selim Seferbekov, recognized for its deepfake detection capabilities and the Ensemble algorithm, a class of methods combining multiple models for improved accuracy originating from David Wolpert’s work with his “stacked generalization” paper, both registered 57% level of suspicion.

The original photo used in the video was from Hontiveros’ official Facebook account, taken on June 10 at the Senate of the Philippines with a caption,  “Your Minority. We are ready! ✊🏼”

There are no photos or videos showing both senators receiving floral tributes after the Senate session.

As of posting, the edited video has drawn 11,000 reactions, 780 comments, and 1,000 shares. Jamaica Cabilis
