CLAIM: June 19 is a national special non-working holiday to celebrate Dr. Jose Rizal’s birthday.
RATING: FALSE
A Facebook page falsely claimed that June 19 was declared a national special non-working holiday in honor of Dr. Jose Rizal’s birthday.
On June 18, the Facebook page Philippine Weather System/Pacific Storm Update posted an announcement with a headline “WALANG PASOK SA HUWEBES, JUNE 19, 2025” supporting it by citing Republic Act No. 11144.
However, Republic Act No. 11144, also known as “Araw ng Kapanganakan ni Dr. Jose P. Rizal,” signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte on Nov. 9, 2018, states that the annual special non-working holiday every June 19 is effective only in the province of Laguna.
Moreover, there was no declaration of a nationwide work suspension from Malacañang.
The Facebook post caption also included fake links of supposed sources that redirect to some e-commerce sites.
The post was originally uploaded by the Facebook page Walang Pasok Advisory, which clarified that the special non-working holiday applies only to the entire province of Laguna.
Other pages, such as Philippine Weather System/Pacific Storm Update and Bantay Panahon, then reused the same graphic, falsely claiming that the special non-working holiday applies to the entire country.
Meanwhile, the official Facebook page of the Municipality of Santa Maria in Bulacan warned the public about fake weather advisories circulating online, including those from the previously mentioned pages.
As of this writing, the false announcement has drawn 70 reactions and has been shared 185 times. Azriel Gilson Dela Cruz
