CLAIM: Sen. Bong Go is credit-grabbing the Malasakit Centers Act.
RATING: MISSING CONTEXT
A Facebook post with a screenshot of House Bill No. 5477 from the 18th Congress, claims Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go is claiming credit for the passage of the measure.
The post by Arthur Leywin has garnered 2,200 reactions and 3,300 shares as of writing.
“Hanggang ngayon pala naniniwala ang mga tao na si Bong Go gumawa ng Malasakit Center? Maganda naman yung layunin nyan pero bakit inaangkin?” Leywin stated in his post.
The legislative process in the Philippines requires both houses of Congress to review, deliberate and vote on bills filed by senators and representatives in their respective chambers before it is sent to the president. He either signs or vetoes it.
The Malasakit Center Act came from Senate Bill No. 1076, filed on Sept. 26, 2019, authored by Go, and House Bill No. 5477, filed on Dec. 3, 2019, which was authored by Quezon Rep. Angelina Tan.
The senate legislative history portal maintains that Tan’s H.B. 5477 bears the exact title and provisions seen from Go’s preceding S.B. 1076. Earl Jerald Alpay
