A Facebook Reels short video falsely claimed that new evidence proving first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos meddling in an anti-drug agency’s investigation had been released to the public.
The video was paired with a misleading caption that read: “IBIDINSYA LABAN SA ASAWA NI BBM INILABAS NA! [sic]”
(“Evidence against BBM’s spouse has been released!”)
The reel, posted March 19, showed footage that first appeared during the Senate’s May 13, 2024 public hearing and investigation on the alleged “PDEA Leaks.”
The video falsely claimed that the footage was “new.”
As of writing, no new evidence has been presented supporting the first lady’s supposed meddling and coercion to silence former a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency agent, Jonathan Morales.
In an interview on May 10, 2024, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called Morales a “professional liar,” denying allegations made against him and the first lady as to their alleged involvement in illegal drugs.
During the May 20, 2024 Senate hearing, Sen. Ronald Dela Rosa cited Morales in contempt for “continuously lying” in his statements against Marcos Jr. in relation to the “PDEA leaks.”
As of writing, the video has gathered 29,000 likes, 51,000 shares, and 759 comments. The video remains posted and was flagged by Facebook for possible AI-generated content. Maria Minerva Melendres
