CLAIM: US President-elect Donald Trump thanked ex-Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte for his war on drugs
RATING: FALSE
A video has surfaced on TikTok falsely claiming that US President-elect Donald Trump had thanked former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte for his “war on drugs.”
The video that TikTok user @spottedtrend17 posted bore a text overlay that read: “Donald Trump nagpasalamat sa drug on war (sic) ni President Duterte.”
(“Donald Trump thanked President Duterte for his war on drugs.”)
However, the original video was from Trump’s 2017 visit during Manila’s hosting of the 2017 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit.
During his visit, Trump commended the country’s hosting of the summit and spoke of the longstanding Asean-US relationship.
There was no mention of the war on drugs in the video and in the official transcript.
As of writing, the video has garnered 593 likes, 17 comments, and 20 shares on TikTok. Hurt Allauigan
