Filipinos have the third worst sleep habit in the world, according to a recent study.
Australian mattress company Onebed released the results of its study that analyzed various data points worldwide to determine which countries have the most challenging sleep environments.
Factors such as average hours of sleep per night, air quality, noise pollution levels, stress levels, and Google search volumes for sleep-related issues like “sleep deprivation” and “insomnia remedies” were considered.
Each factor was carefully examined to determine its impact on sleep quality and the overall prevalence of sleep issues in each country. A composite score was calculated to rank the countries accordingly.
Australia ranked first in terms of the worst sleep habits, averaging just 6.24 hours of sleep per night.
The United States took the second spot as Americans faced significant sleep challenges, including the lowest average sleep duration among the top 10 at just 5.7 hours per night.
The US also has the highest Google search volumes for both “sleep deprivation” and “insomnia remedies,” indicating a widespread public struggle with sleep issues.
The Philippines ranked third, clocking highest levels of noise pollution at 55.60 and stress among the top 10, severely affecting sleep quality. The average sleep duration in the Philippines was 6.13 hours per night.
The high number of sleep-related Google searches showed that people are still struggling with sleep problems, the study found.
Other countries that made the top 10 list were the United Kingdom, Mexico, Singapore, India, South Korea, Brazil and Israel.
Dylan Tollemache, the co-founder & CEO at Onebed, said the study revealed “how challenging it is for people across the globe to get a decent night’s rest.”
“It’s clear that sleep quality is becoming a bigger concern, and it’s something we need to start paying more attention to,” he said. Rommel F. Lopez
