A video on TikTok falsely claimed on Sept. 14 that Vice President Sara Duterte had resigned.
Although it did not explicitly say from what position, the text overlays and captions implied that Duterte was stepping down as vice president.
“[Bakit] nag-resign[?] Ikaw pa naman ang VP-SARA DUTERTE. [Ang] pag-asa ng bayan,” the malicious text overlays read. (Why did you resign? You are VP-Sara Duterte. The nation’s hope.)
User @user5348813199629, who also calls themselves “LODI MO,” had spliced a clip from GMA Network’s 24 Oras news broadcast back in June 19.
The original clip detailed Duterte’s resignation from the Marcos cabinet as education secretary and as vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.
Duterte continues to serve as vice president, which has a term of six years.
