A satirical post is circulating on Facebook announcing that Samsung has withdrawn its $1 billion sponsorship of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Facebook page “Patriots Network” posted on July 29 a photo from the Paris 2024 Olympics opening act with the text “Samsung Withdraws $1 Billion Sponsorship from Paris Olympics, Woke Agenda,” mistakenly implying that the Korean conglomerate had joined the backlash over the Olympics opening ceremony.
The opening of the Paris Olympics featured an act by drag artists, which outraged Christians who claimed it was a mockery of Leonardo da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper.”
A link can be found on the post’s comment section made by the same page, which redirects to an article on a satire website “SPACEXMANIA.”
The satirical SPACEXMANIA article written by Alex Bruno claims that Samsung has pulled out of its sponsorship for the Paris Olympics.
While reviewing the website of SPACEXMANIA, its “About Us” tab states that its mission is to bring the people the “freshest fake news, some sassy analysis, and a good dose of satire.”
Samsung has not released any statement withdrawing its sponsorship from the Olympics. The most recent article posted on Samsung Global Newsroom regarding the Olympics was dated July 29, the same date as the satirical article of SPACEXMANIA.
The satirical Facebook post has garnered 78,000 reactions, 9,700 comments, and 17,000 shares. Earl Jerald Alpay
