FACT-CHECK: Marcos Jr.’s claim on PhilHealth benefits for children with disabilities lacks detail

CLAIM: Marcos made an unclear announcement that PhilHealth would launch benefits for children with disabilities next year
RATING: MISSING CONTEXT

In his third State of the Nation Address, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said PhilHealth would launch benefits for children with disabilities next year. The announcement however was short on details, and there is already an existing program for children with disabilities.

“Mula nang pumasok ang Administrasyong ito, nagsimula na ang mga programang pangkabuhayan na nakalaan para sa ating mga PWDs. Sa susunod na taon, ilulunsad naman ng PhilHealth ang benepisyo nito para sa mga batang may kapansanan,” he said.

PhilHealth launched in 2018 the “Z Benefit Package for Children with Developmental Disabilities.”

PhilHealth Circular No. 2017-0029, which was published on Feb. 12, 2018 in the Manila Times, specified the services provided under the benefit package. The benefit ranges from P3,626 to P5,276. Raniel Paquingan
