FACT-CHECK: DOLE-NLRC not offering scholarship allowances

CLAIM: The Department of Employment-National Labor Relations Commission (DOLE-NLRC) has opened a scholarship application and offered students a P30,000 allowance.
RATING: FALSE

With over 3,000 followers, the Facebook page “Philippine Scholar” posted on Feb. 21 a fake announcement claiming that the Department of Employment-National Labor Relations Commission (DOLE-NLRC) had opened a registration for scholarship applications.

It also falsely claimed that DOLE-NLRC offered allowances for qualified students ranging from P30,000 to P120,000 yearly depending on the type of school they attend.

According to the fake post, to qualify, Facebook users should submit school credentials and fill out forms through dubious links that all led to a gaming site.

However, the DOLE-NLRC has never announced nor posted on its official website that it offers scholarship allowances.

DOLE-NLRC’s mandate is to promote and maintain industrial peace by resolving labor and management disputes, where employees and employers can file cases.

The page Philippine Scholar previously posted several fake scholarship programs and allowances offered by other government agencies. Rushelle Intia
