CLAIM: Former senator Leila de Lima was allowed to post bail despite being a drug lord.
RATING: FALSE
A Facebook reel posted by McDan PH on Nov. 13 falsely claimed that former senator Leila de Lima got her freedom because drug lords in the New Bilibid Prison were allowed to post bail.
The video, which was shared after the release of de Lima following questionable accusations of involvement in drug-related activities at Bilibid, featured an edited clip of the former senator.
It contained the text, “Mga drug lord sa bilibid pinayagang mag pyansa sa korte? Only in the Philippines.”
(Drug lords in Bilibid allowed to post bail? Only in the Philippines.)
The video makes malicious accusations against de Lima, who is not convicted of any drug offense and remains innocent until proven guilty.
Amnesty International argues that the evidence against de Lima is weak, with government witnesses recanting their testimonies one by one.
De Lima claims the charges against her were politically motivated and fabricated by the previous Duterte administration to get back at her following her investigation into the bloody war on drugs. — Nicaflor Baltazar
