FACT-CHECK: Facebook video falsely claims Marcos and Revillame grilled Robin Padilla

CLAIM: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Willie Revillame grilled Robin Padilla
RATING: FALSE

The Ba TV yan Facebook page falsely claimed on Nov. 2 that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos and TV host Willie Revillame had criticized Sen. Robin Padilla over his opinion on the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

The video was nothing more than clickbait, with a caption falsely claiming that Marcos and Revillame had scolded Padilla, which made the latter speechless.

The video failed to offer proof to substantiate its claim, such as any official statement from Marcos or Revillame or relevant video clips.

In the video, the narrator mentioned that the senator had questioned the United States’ assistance to the Philippines, suggesting that the Philippines could handle things independently.

A clip of Revillame’s statement was also included, but it didn’t pertain to the issue. Instead, it was about Revillame’s disinterest in entering politics.

VERA Files has also fact-checked multiple YouTube videos, claiming that Marcos had ordered the firing, imprisonment, or exile Padilla, rating the information as false.

With more than 2,700 reactions, the video has obtained 1,400 comments and amassed 197,000 views. — Nicaflor Baltazar
