Leading its 25th Commencement Exercises, University of the Philippines-Mindanao summa cum laude and class valedictorian, Meluzvia Marie Amora stressed the need for cooperation between scholars, their parents and their educators during her valedictory address.

Amora, a Bachelor of Science in Food Technology graduate, is only the third in UP Mindanao’s 28 year history to graduate with the highest Latin honor, summa cum laude, garnering a 1.1460 cumulative weighted average grade.

She leads the other 252 graduates of UP Mindanao’s Batch 2023.

Tayong lahat ay may pananagutan. Hindi lang ikaw, kundi pati mga magulang at guro natin. Maaring kailanganin ang iyong katalinuhan, pagkamalikhain, puso’t imahinasyon upang linangin ang mundong ating ginagalawan,” Amora said in her valedictory speech.

She reminded her batchmates to “remember that the world is bigger and more complex than the degrees they pursue.”

Bilang pagtatapos, nawa’y dala-dala natin na ang ating mundo ay mas malaki at mas kumplikado kaysa sa mga larangan kung saan pinili mong magtapos,” Amora added, who was also the third SCL of her program.

Batch 2023 also saw 57 magna cum laudes and 99 cum laudes receiving their degrees.

Meanwhile, UP President Angelo Jimenez challenged the new graduates to use their talents to give voice to the voiceless and marginalized.

“Be humble enough to learn from others, be patient enough to understand the diversity of our needs and realities, and be empathetic to the struggles of those who are not like you, especially the voiceless and marginalized,” Jimenez said. Hurt Allauigan
