It’s hard to think that amid the pandemic, some people still manages to fool others. These days, scammers are much more prolific on social media. They prey on trusting and unsuspecting people by taking advantage of their situation. Most of the time, the reason behind their scams is to profit from others. Unfortunately, many people still fall for these scams, and it can cost them their business.

This lantern maker is on the verge of losing his business after falling victim to an elaborate scam. Since Christmas is just around the corner, people are scrambling to buy Christmas decorations to adorn their home. The most popular symbol of Christmas in the Philippines is the ‘parol,’ or lantern.

Max Simon is one of the many lantern makers who are hoping to make bucks during the holiday season. Unfortunately, little did he know that one scammer would cost him a fortune!

Earlier this week, Max shared his heartbreaking story on social media. According to the lantern maker, a customer ordered many lanterns amounting to P100,000.

At first, he thought that they struck gold. After all, having a huge order amidst the pandemic is already a big blessing for them. They spent weeks making the white lanterns. However, just when the lanterns were ready to be delivered, Max found out that he was scammed.

“Di na kukunin yan ng buyer. Sayang 100k lahat bayad yan, paano na ako baon na naman ako sa utang,” wrote Max on Facebook. He even shared a video showing the ready-to-sell lanterns in a large warehouse.

His workers are also sitting on the floor, feeling hopeless when they found out that the customer will not be paying for the orders.

According to Max, he is deeply in debt just to pay off for the materials and labor of the lantern. He can’t help but be emotional after seeing that all of their efforts and work were just wasted.

After sharing this on Facebook, many netizens also tagged Raffy Tulfo and KMJS to hopefully ease the situation of this poor lantern maker.
