The entire nation was enraged following the deadly encounter of a police officer and his neighbors in Paniqui, Tarlac. What started as a heated exchanged turned deadly as the cop fired four shots to the victim, instantly killing the mother and son. The suspect was identified as Police Sergeant Junel Nuezca of Parañaque police.
Shortly before the shooting, a video showed that Nuezca was in a heated altercation with Sonya Rufino and her son, Anthony. Minutes later, Nuezca pulled out his service firearm and shot the two victims. The video went viral on social media, causing outrage amongst the public.
Despite this heinous crime in broad daylight, some people still sided with Nuezca. Among them is former actress Mystica, who took to social media to share her sympathy towards the cop, who also had a record of administrative and criminal cases in his career. Mystica was quoted as to saying:
“Hindi na baleng ako’y makulong. Ayaw ko lang na mapahiya at mawalan ng dignidad yung trabaho ko bilang pulis na nagmi-maintain ng peace and order. So, sa pamamagitan ng ginawa niya, kung yun na lang ang way para mapatahimik ‘tong mag-lola, then he did his thing. That’s what I think.”
Furthermore, the former actress insisted that Nuezca was only acting out of the interest of all the parties involved, including his daughter.
For Mystica, the shooting was justified because the victims were acting rudely towards the cop, who was inclined to defend his dignity in front of his daughter.
“So, natural, bilang isang magulang, pinalaki mo ‘yung bata na ‘yan with respect, iginagalang ka bilang policeman, ano’ng gagawin ko? Hahayaan ko na lang ba na babastusin ‘yung trabaho ko? Babastusin ‘yun ginagampanan kong katungkulan bilang pulis? At hahayaan ko na lang na i-manipulate ako nitong mga maglola na ito? Na wala silang pakialam?”
As expected, Mystica’s statement earned the netizens’ wrath. Many criticized her for defending the killer, and some even said that she shouldn’t have interfered with issues like this.
